Lovely Elevator Music... Let me make this clear.

Stop using this shitty one...

Use this optimized one...
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen /180427

Cant edit or delete the original, so I've had to resort to this.

A revenue cut is also appreciated. My tracks been heard over 2 million times, and its my shittiest composition. In addition, its incredibly unclear when submitting audio where this stands in terms of commercial-ism... You submit and agree to a Creative Commons non-commercial license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b y-nc-sa/3.0/)... yet its encouraged that flash developers use this music, which is then used to generate insane amounts of revenue....

That made sense before revenue came in, where money could be made through Newgrounds monthly prizes, which are effectivly a 'gift' from the staff... but now, you can set out to make a game and use as much music from the audio portal as you want, breaking the terms of the license you agree to when you submit music.. Now revenue has come in, surely these are commercial products.

Thats why I've now boycotted the audio portal. There should be a greater range of control for musicians submitting their work to the portal. They should have the power to specify a minimum revenue cut should people choose to use their music, as well as choose whether users can download music and/or use music in flashes... Newgrounds has evolved and the audio portal has stayed in the dark. Ugh, annoying.

Dick out.

I just assumed most people asked the musician for permission.
Guess not..

The audio portal was set up so there is this big massive pool of free music for musicians you can just grab stuff from. Thats great...

The issue I have though is that this was set up with the understanding the music would not be used for commercial products... Since prizes have been abolished a few months back, and artists now specify the amount of revenue they distribute, this goes against the terms musicians agreed to when they uploaded music.

Yeah I have the same problem, can't delete nor change your first song.

I feel bad for the audio people because it's easier to use that than art or flash o_O in ...other flash games or animations. no one can upload animated art assets or anything so the only thing that can really be used after stolen is music.

rev cut wouldn't cut it i think (har har har). the NG rev ads do not really make THAT much money. there should be an official agreement with a reliable artist to give you part of the sponsorship money as well.

ah well

Jul. 17, 2009 | 10:36 AM mrSimon responds:

The problem with the revenue system is that its now all about popular artists, rather than fresh new talent.. Sure, there were popular artists back when prizes were here.. but great new stuff would always shine through..

Now, there are a handful of artists who can make an excellent home here on Newgrounds.. But for me, the appeal and universal nature of sites like Youtube and Kongregate are attracting me more every day.

I think as less people visit Newgrounds, less revenue will be generated, and as a result, the popular artists who were pulling in the revenue will leave also.

I was going to make a post that put the Elevator song in text-form with all the notes turned into "doo DOO doo doo" but it didn't work very well.

I'm actually not sure whether I like the old one or the new one more. But the new one is less-used. That probably makes it better.

Insane amounts of revenue = a few hundred $...

I agree that musicians should get a cut though. :/

Jul. 17, 2009 | 3:59 PM rtil says:

first they must open the highly anticipated and relevant lit portal before they upgrade the rebuked audio portal

i mean we all need our sonic the hedgehog fanfic tribute fix right

Jul. 17, 2009 | 5:02 PM mrSimon responds:

The lit section will hardly be relevant... unless it contains hetro and homo filters.

Jul. 17, 2009 | 4:13 PM MusicMyOxygen says:

I completely agree with you. I do not make music set out to make money, and honestly nobody has used mine in any flash, but if someone was using music I agreed to upload with the knowladge it would not be used for commercial products in a flash generating alot of revenue, I would be pissed.

The newgrounds audio portal continues to take a backseat to flash, and instead of improving the audio section they made an art portal instead. I realize this is primarily a flash site, but I think if the people running newgrounds want to keep the audio portal around, they should pay more attention to it. I have seen many talented musicians leave ng because it had nothing to offer them anymore, and I wonder how many more people leaving it will take until they recognize us as a part of newgrounds.
Basically, we're the neglected child of newgrounds.

Jul. 17, 2009 | 5:03 PM mrSimon responds:

With these masses of features, rather than core refinements, I only receive the impression that Newgrounds has lost its focus....
